I'm not questioning your powers of observation I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.

This image caught my attention because it is very straightforward. It is a really honest portrait, and the title and description make it easy to identify what it is documenting. That said, I think this image connects quickly with anyone who has attended a prom. Your face expresses what I think most people going to a prom feel: a mix of anxiousness, excitement, resentment...etc. And the bottom teeth only add interest, they’re not at all annoying. As a viewer, I am very intrigued by your expression, yet the lack of other objects in the photograph leaves me to imagine the context. I like how you focused on your face though, instead of including what dress or jewelry you were wearing, or who your date was. I think your focus on the face further emphasizes the emotions that teenagers associate with prom, instead of the material things. Since high school and prom are often dominated by materialism (at least where I live), the lack of material objects within this photograph is very refreshing. I really enjoy this picture as a reflection of the prom experience. This photograph is accessible to most of the Devart audience, who I would estimate are around the age where their own prom experience, or something similar, is still fresh in their memory. I like that the composition is relatively centered, it simplifies the image. Your depth of field decision was spot on--leaving the car interior out of focus was a good decision because it distinguishes the photograph from being a snapshot, and because it highlights your face and expression even more. Although I’m guessing you didn’t have much control over how the colors worked together and the lighting, they are quite harmonious. I would have liked to see a slight change in the lighting on your face, simply to produce a more flattering shadow on the right cheek, otherwise the lighting is great in adding dimensionality to your face. Even though in a few areas the lighting is a bit harsh, the photograph retains a soft quality that is really nice. I don’t know if you cropped this photograph, but I think I would have liked to see just a little bit more room under your chin.
All in all, I think this is a great photograph that really draws in the viewer. I only wish it were a series because it has such a narrative quality.

Thank you for the great review and the wonderful suggestions. I do dislike the lighting on my face and in the car in general.

Hmmm....a narrative series, nice idea :)
